Spinal Cord Injury

  • Recovery from a spinal cord injury (SCI) involves significant challenges for patients and families. We provide the earliest possible start to rehabilitation and work to optimize the abilities and independence of our patients so that they
    may return home.

    Some highlights of our spinal cord injury program include:

    • Fellowship-trained, ACGME board-certified spinal cord injury medicine rehabilitation physicians on staff
    • Dedicated spinal cord injury treatment team
    • Care Partner Program for caregiver training and support
    • Close communication and ease of follow-up with physicians at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
    • Continuity of spinal cord injury care after discharge from acute inpatient rehabilitation with regular outpatient clinic follow-up with your spinal cord injury physician
    • Comprehensive outpatient neuro-rehabilitation day program for spinal cord injury patients

    This goal-directed approach enables patients to:

    • Improve physical function and mobility
    • Develop the skills and strategies to perform daily activities
    • Utilize adaptive technologies that facilitate activities at home, at work, and/or in the community
    • Overcome the psychological and social problems that often interfere with adjustment to life ahead
