      Kyle Gilbert

In March of 2016, Kyle Gilbert fell off the side of a mountain in Utah while snowboarding. He broke 30 bones and sustained a traumatic brain injury. An alert ski lift operator and the ski patrol saved his life. A hospital in Utah stabilized him, but his parents were told to be prepared for him to never walk or speak again – but they had hope. He returned home to Pennsylvania and Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital , where he began to walk, eat and speak again.

Less than one year later, with his therapists, family and friends cheering him on, he took to the slopes for the first time since the accident. Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics and Baltimore Adapted Recreation and Sports (BARS) got him back on the board in February 2017.
